'art of the pet' display
thank you to those of you who popped by the pawsway building http://www.pawsway.ca/ on december 6th and 7th for the 'art of the pet' show. i truly appreciate your support and interest in my work. i was very happy with how my first display turned out.
i included a mixture of 16x20 and 20x24 gallery wrapped canvasses and filled the table with album prints and a slideshow running on my laptop (not pictured). i'm ready for the next one that will take place in the summer.

congratulations zori
i first met zori, the belgian malinois, and her owner/handler susan during the summer of 2007 when zori was a puppy. zori was in the process of being trained for herding, tracking, rally-o, agility...you name it...she was quite the impressive puppy. since then, zori has received her herding instinct certificate and her novice rally-o title. last month, zori became OPP certified. she is one of only four dogs in the civilian program, in the entire province. zori and susan are with georgian bay search and rescue awaiting their first call out.
way to go zori!

farewell nietzsche
in late august i had the pleasure of hanging out with a lovely old boy named nietzsche on a farm in southern ontario. even though nietzsche was 14 years, he never lost his puppy face. he was gentle and sweet. sadly, a few weeks ago, his family said goodbye to their good friend. being a city dog for many years, nietzsche enjoyed his last few months in farm country, getting up to no good in the fields. what more could a dog ask for?
goodbye friend.

'capturing a short life' documentary
as some of you may be aware, i volunteer my time and photography through an organization that i am proud to be a part of called “now i lay me down to sleep” http://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/ - professional photographers gifting their time and talent to families suffering from the loss of an infant.
there is a beautiful film that will be airing on the topic of infant loss this tuesday december 9, 2008 on cbc newsworld at 10pm.
the documentary “capturing a short life” http://www.capturingashortlife.com/ , directed by toronto filmmaker sheona mcdonald http://www.dimestore.org/ and featuring my wonderfully talented friend and fellow photographer heather rivlin http://www.heatherrivlin.com/ , is a beautiful, intimate and life-affirming documentary about families dealing with infant loss. it explores how critical it is to remember and celebrate the beautiful babies who are only with us for a moment, and how impossible it is to forget them.
please spread the word to friends and family, if you think they may be interested in seeing how photographs help families grieve a loss, and the power of photography at times like these. we want to encourage cbc to continue funding and showcasing documentaries like this one, and so we are hoping many of you will tune in to watch - it is a truly touching account of the stories of several families who lost children and who are connected to each other only through their grief and their decision to have their child’s memory honored through photographic images.
