woofstock...right around the corner

i am very excited to be exhibiting at woofstock this year.

woofstock is the largest outdoor festival for dogs in all of north america. last year it was beamed around the world on CNN for the entire weekend.

quirky and fun,
woofstock is a free admission non-stop party that takes place at a hip location in toronto, the historic st. lawrence market neighbourhood, home to the world-famous food market as well as the dog-friendly sunday antique market.

my booth will be located on the north side of front street, across from the winners.

i look forward to seeing you and your dogs there!

walk for kala

today my niece turn 5 years old. she has asked for a bicycle. she loves to sing, dance, paint and take photos (just like her aunt). she is just like every other child on the playground, except that kala has cystic fibrosis.

on sunday may 31, 2009 at the toronto zoo, along with my family and friends, i will be participating in the great strides walk to raise awareness for cystic fibrosis.

marcia's great strides page

thank you,

marcia

huge smiles, big brown eyes and chubby thighs...oh my!

i had so much fun with the beautiful miss "e", her fantastic mom and dad and menagerie of animals. full of smiles and giggles galore, she is a photographer's (and parent's) dream!

a very special thank you to winston (the dog) and ben and yumi (the cats) for making a brief appearance in our photo shoot, but allowing their "little sister" take the spotlight.

ella enchanted

as soon as those big beautiful brown eyes met mine my heart was stolen. ella, a cairn terrier mix, has a face and spirit that could melt the coldest of hearts.

apparently, i'm not the only one to fall for her charms. her mom christine, who recused ella from the humane society 5 years ago, was telling me that when she is out for walks with ella they get stopped all the time...everyone is enchanted by her. in fact, while we were having our photo shoot/playdate at the beach, most people who passed by had to comment on ella's beauty. well, i sure can't blame them.

as good as it gets

it took sweet and shy verdell (yes, named after the dog from the film 'as good as it gets') a little while to warm up to the idea being photographed. actually, it was really leaving his mom's side that was the big challenge. i think my favorite series of shots is when he was sitting and laying right at her feet. now what person wouldn't love to have their own personal traveling foot warmer?

i ending up using all of my tricks of persuasion. he finally mustered up the courage to hang with me alone, allowing me to capture his gorgeous little face. melvin would be proud.

"well, maybe I overshot a little, because i was aiming at just enough to keep you from walking out." - melvin udall

the first sprig of spring

i can't tell you how excited i was to discover the first inch of hosta poking its teeny head up in the backyard garden the other day.

well, i was so excited that i dusted off my macro lens and took a few shots to share.

spring is here...yiiiipeeee!

wally's girls

i had the absolute honour of photographing one of my lifelong friends and her family during a bitter sweet moment in their lives.

wonderful news came in early february, when a beautiful baby girl was born at 6lbs 10oz. the devastating news came shortly after when baby's grandpa passed away suddenly. sadly, being at opposite sides of the country, they never had the chance to meet each other.

i met this fantastic family when i was six years old and they mean the world to me. it's difficult to watch them go through the waves of sadness. my hope is to give them back all of the love and support that they have treated me to over the years.

i know one thing for sure...wally would be so proud of his beautiful girls.

smith sneak peek

i enjoyed spending a lovely morning with the very handsome zen and his loving mom. the poor boy was nursing a leg injury and we had to keep his energy contained enough so that he would not make it worse. he didn't have any complaints at all...in fact, he was spoiled as he spent our time together being allowed on mom's bed for the first time.
